TAKING A SOCIAL MEDIA BREAK WHILST BEING A SOCIAL INFLUECNER?

Making lifestyle changes in the new year – so cliche right? But, I can confidently say, 9 days into February that I have stuck to my most important challenge. The scheduling of the time I spend on social media. This isn’t one of those things where I have been doing bulk breaks but simply separating the time I spend on social media and time I spend with family and friends.

Like anyone who is essentially running their own business you’ll know that is it pretty much a 24 hour thing. There is no lunch breaks or clocking in and out of work. It is essentially every spare moment you have, you are working on your dream job and perfecting your craft. However, this year in my efforts to put some structure to the vast amount of time I spend online, I have managed to get into a routine. So, as your typical 9-5 would work (at a stretch 9-6) this is how I have made this routine work. I allow myself to be online as much and as many times as I like between those hours but once the evening makes it’s way in, I essentially “clock out”.

Practicing this routine has even made a difference to my sleeping pattern and allowed me to spend time with those close to me without feeling the urge to check my social media. Towards the back end of last year, it got to the point where my close family and friends would be speaking however, due to the fact that my phone was in my hand I was not registering anything said. And anyone who has close bonds and relationships can vouch for me when I say two way communication is very important. In depth conversations and having a bit of chin wag face-to-face has almost become absurd as you could easily just pick up the phone or send a text message or even send you an inbox (for you Facebook users).

As  much as I love what I do as a social influencer I want to reiterate the importance of having more control over your time and allowing yourself to have that refreshing feeling of talking to people hours on end or laughing until your stomach hurts over cocktails with friends.

If any of you try this out let me know how it goes!

Totally agree! Thinking about the time we spend on social media is something we should all do; whether or not out business are based online. It can be so healthy mentally and physically to spend too much time on social media. Glad you took some time to write about this. Great post x
